This chicken brick was first introduced in the 1960s, commissioned by Weston Mills Pottery for Habitat. Made in England. They discontinued making them in 2008, but rereleased a modern version due to popular demand. Terracotta clay is a porous material which, when soaked in water and then heated in the oven, provides a slow evaporation of steam from the pores, creating a steamy enclosed environment - Perfect for achieving succulent, tender and full-flavoured roasts without having to add additional liquids or fats. This brick was inherited but rarely used as we have vegetarians in the house. Has signs of use (see photos) but still in perfect functional condition. First photo is not mine, from website to demonstrate purpose. The colouration in the photos is moisture on the terracotta as I washed them before taking the photos.
