The LifeSign (now often referred to by its later brand name, QuitKey) was a pioneering device in the 1980s. It was one of the first consumer electronics using "scheduled gradual reduction" to help people quit smoking.
It was developed with grants from the U.S. National Institute of Health and works in two distinct stages:
- Stage 1 (Baseline): for the first 7 days, use the device normally, pressing a button every time you smoke. The computer "learns" your personal smoking patterns and nicotine habits.
- Stage 2 (Weaning): based on your data, device creates a personalized schedule. It beeps to tell you when you are allowed to smoke, gradually increasing the time between cigarette to slowly reduce your nicotine dependence.
Interesting piece of health-tech history.
Includes VHS tape "how-to" guide and Program Guide booklet.
Unused and in original packaging.
Originally purchased in 1991.
Interesting piece of health-tech history.
Note: device includes internal battery and is untested.
