Charming mid-century Japanese Satsuma-style lidded biscuit barrel, made for export between the 1940s–1960s. This versatile piece was used for storing biscuits or cookies, but was also marketed in the West as a small ice bucket. The side lugs once held a wicker handle, now missing.

Hand-painted with colorful raised moriage enamel and gold accents over a dark background. Glazed interior, impressed “MADE IN JAPAN” mark on the base. Measures approx. 5” high and 7” wide handle to handle. In good vintage condition with typical age-related crazing, light wear to paint/gilt, and missing handle.

Great for display, storage, or as a collectible example of postwar Japanese export pottery.
