MLB Hall of Fame Inductee
During his active career, he mainly played for the San Diego Padres and was a closer in MLB from the late 1990s to the 2000s, alongside Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees. He accumulated a career total of 601 saves, ranking 2nd all-time in MLB (the first player to reach 600 career saves, and 1st all-time in the National League). In season stats, he recorded 30 or more saves 14 times, including 40 or more saves 9 times.
He is affectionately known by fans as "Hoffy".
He was inducted into the American Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018.
