The product is a starter-sized plant with an approximate 4-inch-diameter root zone. The plant will be a minimum of 6 to 8 inches tall. It will not have buds or blooms on arrival. Starter-sized plants are intended for a gardener to plant and grow to their mature size.

  • Podranea brycei, or Queen of Sheba Vine is a large, quick-growing, sprawling, vine-like, tropical flowering scrambler shrub native to South Africa. It typically blooms twice a year, in early summer and fall, producing large clusters of showy, fragrant lavender-pink, yellow-throated, bell-shaped flowers followed by long brown seed pods. Its also commonly known as Port St. Johns or Zimbabwe Creeper.
  • This plant is a fast, aggressive grower that establishes quickly, making it an excellent choice for rapid cover on a fence or other structure. However, be sure to allow ample space, as it can quickly fill an area 20 feet or more within a season or two.
  • Care: When mature, plant in fertile, well-draining soil or potting media in a full sun area. Water as needed to maintain consistent soil moisture, but avoid overwatering. Overly saturated plants will become spotted, weak, thin, and fail to flower as expected. Feed a good quality, slow-release, bloom-boosting fertilizer with the initial planting and annually in spring thereafter. Prune after flowering to control size and shape. Avoid pruning in winter when plants are dormant.
  • Indoor Growing: This tropical plant grows large, requires the full spectrum of light 4 to 6 hours daily, high humidity, and warm temperatures, so not well suited for the average indoor growing space.
  • Climate: Queen of Sheba Vine is a tropical plant recommended for growing in Zones 9, 10, and 11. Protection from cold temperatures is required in all Zones for the longest life, best appearance, and earliest flowering. Note that Zone recommendations are based on average temperatures and does not consider other variables. This plant become semi-dormant in winter, but still requires protection from cold.
