The recommended dose is 1 to 2 grams per 1,000 lbs body weight, daily on advice from a veterinarian. Do not overdose.
Effects are usually seen within 1 to 2 hours after injection, with peak relief in a few hours.
The duration of effects is typically 12 to 24 hours, but the actual duration may vary with the horse's metabolism and condition.
Side effects are gastrointestinal upset, kidney or liver injury, swelling at the site of injection, and gastric ulcers. Long-term use should be under veterinary supervision.
Use in mares in foal or nursing is not recommended except under veterinary supervision due to risks associated with use.
