【60's Shonan Summer: A gem of a Shonan youth graphic novel depicting a sensitive 12-year-old girl's summer experience】

A youth drama directed by the unique Katsumi Onuma, based on the original comic by Motoka Murakami. Set in Shonan, Enoshima in the 1960s, it vividly portrays the summer experience of Nagisa, a sensitive 12-year-old girl, with 60's hit numbers like "Koi no Bakansu" (Vacation of Love) in the background.

●Story
In the summer of the 1960s in Shonan, 12-year-old Nagisa lives with her mother, who runs an izakaya (Japanese pub), after her fisherman father died four years ago. For Nagisa, that summer vacation became an unforgettable one. To get a portable record player, Nagisa started working at a beach house run by her aunt. Influenced by her cousin Reiko, a delinquent girl, she gets a perm, goes to a dance party with Reiko's cool boyfriend who drives an American car, and experiences various things every day, such as being mean to Mami, a rich, beautiful girl who returned from Tokyo. One day, while practicing swimming at her favorite rock, she meets a boy she doesn't know. Hiroshi, a sickly boy from Tokyo, collects driftwood on the beach. Nagisa starts teaching Hiroshi how to swim, and they become close.
