The present edition of the Bible is the reprint of a 1943 version and constitutes a text of safe Catholic doctrine, free from those modern alterations of language and interpretation which have spread following the new ecclesial trend. The introductions to the various books and the commentary notes are edited by Abbot Giuseppe Ricciotti, an illustrious biblical scholar and archaeologist. The translation is made from the Latin text of the Vulgate, except for passages where that version improperly renders the original Hebrew or Greek. In these cases the translators decided to follow the original text, however providing the corresponding translation of the Vulgate in a note, without comment. The famous illustrations by Gustave Doré contribute to enriching the volume.
