This is a Korean ceramic water dropper, in the form of a dog, from the Joseon Dynasty. Water droppers were essential items for scholars' desks, used to add water to an ink stone for preparing calligraphy ink. The piece is made of white porcelain. It features underglaze blue paint for the outlines and details, and iron-red cluster markings on the body.
This style of ceramic reflects the Confucian ideals of the Joseon society, which favored humble yet refined scholarly items.
