This standard outlines round, uncoated, high-tensile, cold-drawn steel spring wires, ideal for mechanical springs and wire forms under high static stresses or infrequent dynamic loads. The steel, made via accepted processes, can be ingot or continuous strand cast. The finished wire, free from pipe and segregation, is cold-drawn for desired strength. It's not coated, undergoes heat and product analysis, and passes tensile and wrap tests. The steel has a fine pearlite microstructure, with no surface imperfections.
