Awa Shoai Shigure-ori Fabric

【Awa Shijira-ori】
This is a bolt of fabric from Tokushima Prefecture's traditional craft.
It is dyed with natural indigo dye, which is designated as an intangible cultural property.

This navy color is suitable for a wide range of ages. Please use it not only for kimonos but also as a material for various handmade items.

The characteristic of Shijira-ori is its unique uneven texture called "shibo," which is created by the difference in tension between the warp and weft threads, and the combination of their numbers. It requires outstanding skill and experience to calculate the tension difference and arrange the patterns and designs. However, the shibo makes the fabric feel good against the skin, light, and easy to wear. It also doesn't stick to the skin even when you sweat, so it is especially useful as cool biz clothing in the summer.

In July 1978, Awa Shijira-ori using natural Awa indigo dye was designated as a national traditional craft as "Awa Shoai Shijira-ori." (It is designated as "Awa Shijira-ori" as a traditional Tokushima Prefecture specialty.)
