This is an antique mid-Victorian vulcanite relief plaque dating to the 1860–1880 period. It depicts Bacchus, the classical god of wine, shown in profile with grape clusters and vine leaves in high relief. Pieces like this were originally mounted in gold-filled or pinchbeck frames as part of mourning jewelry. The front retains strong detail throughout the hair and foliage. The back shows original brass screw fittings from its previous mount, as well as light age-appropriate wear. Vulcanite remains stable with no warping or structural cracks. A wonderful example of Victorian Classical Revival design and perfect for collectors, restoration projects, or conversion into a brooch or pendant.
