Rare to find, antique (circa1870) porcelain tennis set teacup & saucer by english company copeland (spode). Tennis sets were introduced circa mid 19th century, when tennis became popular form of entertainment. Wealthy spectators could enjoy their tea & sandwiches thanks to elongated saucer. This set is decorated by expensive 'groundlaying' process (hand applied uniform colour) glaze & hand painted gold trims. Bottom of the saucer has a sea shell as a foot. Marked with copeland mark & impressed marks. Very good antique condition, considering the age of the item.
