1933 Church Anthem Book DAVIS & LEY 1st

The Church Anthem Book: One Hundred Anthems Edited by Sir Walford Davies & Henry G. Ley - RARE 1933 Stated First Edition Sixth Impression (Hymns) - 562 pages. Oxford University Press, London. HB, no jacket. NOT EX LIB. ACCEPTABLE. This is an EXTREMELY scarce edition. Red cloth boards, gold foil lettering on spine, all page edges dyed red. A couple of ink dots on lower page edges. Boards have soiling, corner & edge bumps, spine cover faded, & boards cocked from being splayed open. Binding also split from splaying w/ binding mesh showing, but all pages still bound. Numerous annotations throughout in pencil & red pencil, previous owner may have been the music director based on the notes. Fortunately none of his/her notes obliterated any text. One page, 211/212 (pictured), was repaired with cellophane tape at upper edge both sides, but still allows text below it to show through. Foxing to inside front cover. Owner's name on inside front cover was marked through, "Mar '48" in red pencil.
